The Morning After by Lisa Jackson

Imagine being put in a cold dark grave, incarcerated in a casket, with another body behind you and dirt being thrown back on the casket.  Not a  nice way to die, is it?

Zebra, a division of Kensington Books, sent me a copy of this book to read for review (thank you).  This book has been published, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.

Nikki Gillette is a journalist that wants a big story to get of Savannah.  She knows this killing could be her big chance.  Especially when soon after the first killing, another occurs.  Her way to get there is to stay close to the cop working the case and learn all about it.  She's willing to share information with him, even if he's not so willing to share his with her.  What she doesn't realize is that she's got a stake in this game and the killer she's trying to find is going to be coming after her before this story is over.

This is a twisted tale of ugly murder that stemmed from abuse years before.  You don't immediately recognize why these victims are related.  When you do, it's still a mystery about the killer.  I would have enjoyed the story more if it was more concise.  It takes Ms. Jackson 434 pages to find her killer.  It's a decent mystery and has lots of suspense but, to me, sometimes less is more.  Having said that, I'd read another in this series. Pierce (the cop) and Nikki are just beginning a romance and I want to see how that goes.
