Have you ever played with a hula-hoop? My Grandma bought me one and I played with it for hours. It was good exercise as well as fun.

Kameeka wants to become the Hula-Hoopin' Queen of 139th Street and beat Jamara. She knows today is the day she's going to do it! Then her mother reminds her it's their neighbor's birthday and they are having a party for her. That's so lame, but she really has no choice.
Since she really doesn't want to be there, things start to go wrong. Like she turns the wrong temperature on the cake and she gets lost when she goes down to buy the sugar to make another (she hula-hoops before coming home). Somehow they manage to get the birthday party going and everyone is smiling and eating cupcakes. Then the birthday "girl", who is a grandma's age, see the hula-hoop. She gets up and shows off her talents. Pretty soon they are out in the street and everyone is hula-hooping!
This is a sweet story of family and friends and an easy and safe sport all can do. The real Queen of Hula-Hoopin' lived next door to Kameeka and she never even knew it. It will make you and your child smile when you read the book.
