The Top-Secret Diary of Celie Valentine: Friendship Over by Julie Sternberg

Why was Lula ignoring her?  They'd been best friends forever and now Lula is friends with everyone but her.  She didn't say or do anything.  Or did she?

Boyds Mills Press sent me an ARC of this book for review (thank you).  It has been published the first of October, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.

I like the style of this book: It's diary entries where Celie writes her most personal thoughts.  She needs a diary; her life is full of change and weirdness and she's like a boat without an oar in an ocean of change.  Writing things down centers her.

Her sister, Jo, has a girlfriend that Celie can't stand, Lula is no longer being her friend, her mom is acting weird, and grandma is freezing her trash.  Good thing dad hasn't changed.  Unfortunately, he begins to get upset, too.  What's Celie to do?

Everything manages to get squared away before the end of the story.  Not without some tears and misunderstandings explained, but Celie's life is getting a bit calmer.  It may be the calm before the storm, though.  I'll be watching to see if there's another book in this series.  Celie and Jo are growing up and figuring out what to do with grandma will keep them busy in the future, too.

This is written for grades 3-6 and I'm sure they'll enjoy it.  Why not get a copy for your young one?
