Murderess The Exile of Greywall’d Saga by Daya Marnin

She knew something odd was happening when a boy with a hat fell from the sky into her train.  She doesn't know who he is, he's drug off quickly and all that is left is his hat.  She takes it into her compartment and goes to sleep.  By the time she gets off the train, the only things missing are the boy and the hat...

Morphus VC and Net Galley allowed me to read this book (thank you).  It has been published, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.

Lu liked being alone, listening to her music on her iPod, and just avoiding people.  This new school she's going to doesn't want to let her do that.  The "Essex" girls have their eye on her and they want to do a make over.  They begin by slathering makeup on her and doing up her hair.  She has to admit she does look better, but it's not her.  When she washes it all way and goes back to her old look, she's made a dangerous enemy.

Besides being bullied at school, she's still wondering about the boy she saw on the train.  Then a professor comes around who is going to tell everyone about their ancestors.  When he finds out her name is Lu Killer, he goes nuts!  He swears he's going to kill her, tells her that her family killed all his relatives, and collapses.  Lu runs.  No one remembers the incident afterwards, but Lu sure does.

Then she find a portal to another world.  She also sees her boy in the other world.  She has no idea what's going on, who she is, or her family history.  The more she learns, the less she knows.

This is the beginning of a longer series and it's intriguing.  This young author has a good imagination.  Young adults should be fascinated by the travel between two worlds and the quest Lu will be facing.  Give it a try.
