The Devil's Edge: A Cooper & Fry Mystery by Stephen Booth

It looks like the Savages have struck again.  Another robbery, but this time people are dead...

Witness Impulse and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you).  It has been published, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.

Mr. Booth always writes long, convoluted tales that intrigue you and keep you reading.  This is another of those tales.  Cooper is on a case of burglaries that finally resulted in death.  Fry has been assigned to planning but returns before the end of the story.  Another female officer has joined Cooper in her absence and there's a bit of friction all around.  The mystery is complex.  It will hold your attention for sure.

Cooper wonders why so little was stolen from the murdered couple's house.  It seems out of character for the thieves.  As he digs into it, he opens a can of worms.  This is very small and tight community.  They live in the shadow of the Devil's Edge and you have to have money to buy there.  Most are harmless, but not all.  The further Cooper digs, the worse it gets.  An old snoop ends up dead, one of the residents dies from heart failure, and he has no idea who has done it.  What makes things even worse is that his brother is arrested for shooting an intruder.  Apparently an unarmed trespasser.  He can't be involved with that case, so Fry is assigned.

When the thieves are finally identified, things start clearing up.  However, the murder case is not yet solved.  Can Fry save his brother?  Will he find the real murderer?  You'll have to read the book to see.

I had no idea who the murderer was.  Let me know if you figure it out before the end.  Happy reading!
