The Giant Smugglers by Matt Solomon, Chris Pauls

How do you hide a giant?  Charlie doesn't know either...

Feiwel & Friends and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published May 17th.

This is a tale of a doctor who wants his son to excel at athletics so he'll be a medal winner.  The doctor was one notch down from being a winner and he's going to make sure his son doesn't feel that defeat.  How he decides to do it is evil though.

Charlie finds the giant by accident.  He's home alone and bored so he decides to search out the warehouse next door.  He thought he heard something in there.  What he finds blows his mind.  There's a young giant in there!

There are all kinds of unusual characters in this story.  Powder, the german shepherd was a great addition.  She and her owner are both tough and long time giant allies.  The young giant thinks Bruce Lee is great and mimics his moves, so Charlie names him Bruce.  The bully boy who already has a bad temper from his shots to make him more strong and competitive gives himself a shot that makes him grow even more.

With dueling giants, a couple of evil doctors and plans by the military involved, it all gets pretty wild.  This is a great read for middle graders and I had fun reading it, too.
