The Girl I Used to Be by April Henry

She was only three when she lost her parents.  Her mother was dead, stabbed nineteen times.  Her father was missing.  Was her father the killer?

They were going out to cut a Christmas tree.  Nobody knows what happened.  She was dropped off at a Walmart and she doesn't know who took her there.  It could have been her father or it could have been someone else.

She lived with her grandmother until she died.  Then she bounced in and out of foster homes.  One woman adopted her and changed her name.  She's left the past behind.  But the past is still there...

When the cops knock on her door and tell her that they have found the jawbone of her father, her world falls apart.  If he died with her mother, who was the killer?

Her ordered world is falling apart and she knows the local cops don't have time to deal with a cold case so far in the past.  She decides to do some snooping on her own.  She doesn't remember her past, so she starts investigating who her parents were friends with and where motives might have come from.  She finds a lot but not what she's looking for.  When the murderer comes after her, she is almost without hope about escaping but she doesn't give up.

This is a fast paced story with lots of tension.  It's a good mystery and you feel for the young girl who lost her future but has found it again.  If only death hadn't come calling first.
