Their magic doesn't work like regular magic does, so they have their own classes for upside-down magic. Nory can shapeshift but when she decides to be a kitten, she might turn out to be koat: part kitten, part goat. That can cause problems. And the others in the class have similar problems.
Scholastic Press and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you). It has been published. If you haven't read the first book, it might flesh out the story but this one can stand alone.
This is pure fantasy with a touch of silliness blended in. Some of the word combinations will make you smile. They have more than one crisis to resolve. The biggest problem is when the school bully is telling them they have no place in the school and should be sent somewhere else. When one of them touches her because she tripped, the bully shrinks to three inches high. She recovers but then she's really after them.
With students trying to trigger certain reactions (to get rid of them) and unknown things happening around them, the story keeps you reading. It's a fun story that will be continued in the next book. This is a great series for middle school readers.
