He's on vacation with his girlfriend and his child visiting his parents. His father has a boat trip in mind when the police call and tell Duffy of a murder. It's odd because the victim was shot with a crossbow. He uses it as the perfect excuse to return to work and avoid the boat trip. Even his father looks relieved.
There's been more than one attempt at murder with a crossbow. As he and his squad work the case, they determine that the men used to belong to the "B" squad in earlier days during war patrol. When he pursues it further, he finds that they were involved in an incident where a young boy and girl were killed. They said it was because they were fleeing them instead of going properly through the road block. Her mother said it was because she was raped...
The further he digs, the more dangerous it gets. Even the IRA is involved. It appears someone at the station is feeding info to the IRA. When Duffy is accused of that, he asks his superior to help him. He does. But when the IRA gets him, they don't care what he has to say, they intend to kill him.
This is complex case which is normal Duffy fare. He never does anything easy. I'm just hoping he lives long enough to retire. He has a family now, I'd like to see him enjoy them.
